Employers, particularly in the construction industry, are facing a problem. Staff need to be trained if they are to increase the value they offer to any business, and new recruits frequently fall short of the basic standards a business expects. The dilemma in addressing these skills shortages is that staff need to attend training courses, or go to college to study. This means taking time off work, which is made more complicated, particularly in construction, when employees may be scattered, or even roving, across construction sites around the country.
