Home Working
Traditionally, the main obstacle to working away from the office has been the lack of access to company information, which is normally kept on a computer or server in the office.
With the internet, it's possible to get round this obstacle in two ways. You can host your information online and allow authorised individuals to access it, or you can provide internet-based access to your server in the office.
Our own operation at TeamInteract provides a good example of this. We have no server in the office; instead, all our files are stored on servers accessed over the internet (and located in Germany, as it happens). We have access to our files no matter where we are, and everything is completely secure. So the members of our team are able to work from home, and we save money on office space and office expenses. This leaves us with more cash to invest in the Internet Means Business programme.
